Cooking Gear

I’m going to try to keep this inventory up to date.   That way if you ever want to try anything I’ve made, you can track down any supplies you might need.  Most likely, anything I would be using to cook with, you already have.  I bought the first two new (the nice one with the stainless steel handles before the budget cuts and the other after)  all the rest of my cast iron is either inherited or found at junk sales.

This is the cast iron inventory I’m working with:

That Potjie pots at the end may look like a Halloween prop, but they are for making South African Barbeque that is so good, my mouth is watering as I type this…

And some other odds and ends:
My gramma used regular wooden spoons, but the olive wood is pretty and these have nice thick handles, like her’s, for stirring with gusto.  By some freak of shopping luck, I was able to get a solid copper bowl at a garage sale for $5 a few years ago.  I love it.

I can’t say enough good things about this program! it lets you calculate nutritional information, you can add pictures of what you have cooked, it publishes to your MobileMe account, it even helps you build cookbooks.

I am likely the only person in the world who can say this, but I dream of the day when Lodge Signature series will offer nesting dutch ovens in a 2.5 quart, a 4 quart and a 7 quart size and I can get rid of my stainless steel sauce pans all together! (Edited Nov 2012 – I guess I was the only person because it looks like Lodge has now discontinued that line)
