Dining Room Almost Done

This morning T dropped something behind the china cabinet in our dining room. This lead to a complete move of every piece of furniture the room (as seen here part way through the move):

When he was done, the changes were subtle by important.

This biggest being that now he has a computer workstation too

I still like mine better, but … Well, I hadn’t really considered the benefits of having a dedicated laptop station until I had one. Now I love it. I hope T enjoys his as much even if his desk is kind of….. cobbled together. It is very functional and includes two printers and a scanner, plus our filing cabinet.

The other part (the “in progress” part) is that I took two of out dining room chairs for alterations. Four of the chairs are perfect; two are like the perfect chairs but with arms. That’s just the way the table set came, I guess the designer’s thought was to have two “fancier” chairs for the head and foot of the table. It’s a nice idea but no one likes the chairs with arms. We all fight over who has to sit in them when we have guests over, before the guests arrive, of course. So, we finally committed and have taken them to have a double arm amputation at a highly recommended furniture repair place. When they come back, they won’t be *perfect* but they will be chairs we actually want to use.  And at $40 for the repair compared to $300 for new chairs without arms…. well, it’s the affordable option.

It also allows us to leave the leaf in the dining room table, which I am very happy about.  We don’t really need the space of the table fully extended, but this way I don’t have to worry about the leaf wearing differently than the table.  Or where to store it, or the it will get damaged while not in use.  The table is now big enough for everyone without sticking little girl on the end and when we have guests we won’t have to dig the leaf out from under the pinball machine.

It’s a win all around!

Very nice! I have to ask… where did you get a pink filing cabinet?

Want to trade? It was a free-cycle item. We have two that we use ALL THE TIME, but I would rather have a more…. conservative colour
