Pantry on Hold

My goal for the rest of the month is to cook dishes that use items up out of the pantry.  I want to get rid of use up as much of the stuff in there as I can.  I also have decided how I want to organizing.  I would like to have a free standing shelving unit with my pantry stuff on it and a space along the side for my mop and broom that currently live either by the back door, at the end of the hallway or in the laundry room depending on where they were last used.

So basically, my broom is homeless.  I have enough space in my pantry that I could shuffle and make it work.

However, this is still a buy nothing month to make up for Christmas and some unforeseen expenses, like a new windshield for our car (ouch!).  So, since I need to buy stuff to complete the project, it is getting bumped until next month.

I have also spent some more time prowling around on the Bowl Full of Lemons website and I have come to the conclusion that it is primarily a vehicle for selling her cleaning supplies.  She also did the 21 day challenge at a rate of about one a week and then put together the “challenge” using archived pictures.  Somehow that feels like cheating when she is encouraging her readers to do six a week.

I am still going to go through the list of areas to spend some time on.  I need reminders like that to clean the overlooked spaces in my house, but I am also not going to push it.  Life is busy.  Little girl and I have stuff scheduled three mornings a week.  We also have the regular cooking, cleaning, 60 minutes a day of activity stuff to get done.  I don’t want to go into debt (more) just to sort out my pantry or living room or whatever.

In the meantime, I have put a request on Freecycle for shelves and I’ll check out Value Village and Sally Ann when I’m in the neighbourhood on Wednesday.  I really don’t want to spend more that $40 on new shelves.  I’m also not in a rush since it isn’t that bad, so I can take my time to find something without spending too much.

In the meantime, I’m still “purging” stuff in other areas.  If you know me IRL and have stuff you need, let me know.  I might be getting rid of it.  That’s why I love Freecycle.  I just wish it had a wider adoption rate.  Go check it out.
