It gets worse before it gets better

I realize you never know until the end, but right now I am so glad that we hired painters.  They are up and down the ladder scraping and filling and sanding.  They are doing all the nasty prep work that I hate about painting.  In the mean time, the house looks horrible.  The patches make it look like it has a really nasty skin disease.

All kinds of trim has been pulled off.  Not all of it will be back.  The shutters are gone.  The downspout has a drunken detached lean.  I am doing the classic half way through second guessing about my paint choices.  T keeps saying we should have painted it John Deere Green. (Thanks for that dear)

I’m trying to decide where I want the house numbers when it is all done.  I would love a new mailbox.  We will have to see.  Should I paint the door in the accent colour?  I could do that later.  I’m just happy I’m not up a latter.  AND they took off all the ridiculous boards left over from the bad car port that came with the house.  When this is all done, I’m going to try to find a before picture of how the house was when we bought it and post it along side the after picture.

Here are my colours:

Supernatural (aka taupe) is going to be almost all of the house, with Borage (a sage green) under the roof peak and Chocolate Brownie on the eaves and fascia.  Yes, it is a very muddy palette, but I am trying to co-ordinate with the neighbourhood and the age of the house.   The house numbers are NOS copper, about 6 inches high and a font that looks like Arial Bold.  They will go on the green part under the roof.

So, do I want a green door or just leave it white?  Do I want the door a completely different colour all together?  Maybe something in the green family but a little more saturated.

I would love to get a plain matte black mailbox and stick copper coloured vinyl house numbers to it for by the door.   Or just getting a can of copper coloured spray paint and painting our current mail box.  Then I could add black house numbers, if I wanted….

So many choices, so little budget….

Looks good! My only advice is to consider the heat of the sun when deciding about the door and mailbox colours. It can be very painful to touch a dark door or mailbox that’s been in full sun, and since it faces south… I’d go for white myself. 🙂

I would want a light colour, just maybe not as light as the one I have under the eaves. The plain white that is currently on the door is still just the primer the door came with. It’s a little boring.
