Crazy Extended Weekend

This weekend, I led a crew of 1 hematopathologist and 2 girls under the age of ten to patch holes (a lot) in walls, sand, wash with TSP, rinse, then cut in with paint, and apply two coats of Creme Angels colored paint and primer to two bed rooms.  I also helped move all the furniture.

And just for fun (no really) I changed out 10 (yup TEN) bad 1970’s light fixtures that were not safe for CFL to new energyStar rated ones.  This more than doubled the amount of light in those areas.  I don’t do rewiring or anything hard, but just taking down one fixture and putting up the new one isn’t too difficult in a house with newer wiring.

We moved the furniture back in.  Then we moved the furniture out and brought it back in a different way so that it fit better.  We bought new curtains and curtain hardware and I hung them.  Then for a splash of color in the otherwise cream colored rooms, I organized a craft project where the girls painted colorful cork board as art and a place to hang their posters that doesn’t involve putting tacks in the walls.

It made a HUGE difference in how the house looks!

But, it’s not my house.

My house is still in the ugly, about to be painted stage.

Fortunately, the painters are here scraping today.

It will be done eventually.

The hematopathologist’s of course! People may call me (as a friend) to help them paint, but home repair isn’t a skill that necessarily goes with hematopathology.
