Not gardening

Since all I can do in the garden right now is pull weeds, I have been reading this:

I only paid $2 for it but I am really enjoying it. It is a series of short essays that are interesting but not to detailed. It’s the popcorn of gardening books. But every once in a while, you need that. Especially when there is a water ban and the rest of my landscaping projects are on hold.  Maybe until next year.

Or maybe not.  T has volunteered to pull up some the gravel we laid down before we go the tractor.  The lawn is HUGE and we just couldn’t take care of it all.  We didn’t have kids and we didn’t mind using chemical weed control.  All that has changed.  So we are going to pull it up and put down some sod.

Much of the cost of sod is delivery.  We don’t need much so we can pick it up ourselves.  Eventually, we still want to get a cement truck in to widen the driveway.  It starts as one lane then widens to two lanes as you approach the house.  We want to widen it to two lanes all the way and bring the lawn up to the edge of the next concrete.

I have big garden dreams.

That will look very nice. We want to widen our driveway too because it’s not quite wide enough for one car in the winter when you need room to get out of the car and not end up in a snowbank. Mucho $$$ though. Sigh.

All home improvements cost big $$$. We always say “It’s not just a home, it’s a hobby” because we can’t take up … golf or hockey or other grown up hobbies, all the extra cash goes to the house.
